A Family Affair
She smiled, “Well we will have plenty of leftovers for sure,” she giggled, “so if you just want to visit we can always eat later, babe.” She smiled and pecked his lips back, glancing up as David came into the room she brushed the hair from her face and flushed lightly as she took her spot at the table again. She took Daryl’s hand as he told David the good news and kept her eyes trained on her brother, hoping for a good reaction. She lightly squeezed Daryl’s hand as she waited for David to respond.
Her face lit up once he said he wouldn’t mind being an uncle. She looked back to Daryl beaming and back to David as he continued to talk. “We are,” she smiled glancing back to Daryl, “we talked about it that’s for sure and we both think we’re ready.” She smiled at her brother and glanced back down at her plate, too excited for words. “I will make sure to call you if we ever need anything,” she smiled, “promise.”Daryl smiled, happy with David’s reaction. “I’m actually pretty excited ta be havin’ a kid er two…. We got a puppy named Gunner but that’s way different.” He chuckled and lightly squeezed Dee’s hand. “Yeah, we talked about it plenty and ta be honest, I’m lookin’ forward ta bein’ a daddy.” He picked at the food on his plate and finished off his wine.
“And ya don’t gotta worry ‘bout us, I’ll make sure ta take good care a’ Dee and our kids. And if we ever need somethin’, we’ll be sure ta call on ya.” He nodded and glanced at Dee. This whole night was going way better than expected. “Hell, maybe when we have the kid we can come see ya….” Daryl shrugged. He knew he and Dee would want to show off their little guy to everyone they knew.
“Yeah Dee sent me a picture of the puppy when she bought him,” he chuckled and watched Daryl and Dee closely; he hadn’t expected to take to the kid as much as he had in such a short time. “I’m not gonna worry… too much.” He chuckled, “Well I can always come down and visit you guys too… I can’t imagine Dee would wanna travel anywhere after poppin’ out a kid.” He chuckled.
Noting Daryl and Dee’s empty glasses he finished off his wine and popped open the new bottle, “Well this is Dee’s favorite red wine,” he smirked, “I guess we can have a glass to celebrate then.” He nodded. His phone buzzed in his pocket and he groaned, filling up their glasses first he set down the bottle then pulled out his phone. “Dee, I don’t want ya ta fuckin’ hate me or anythin’ but duty calls… I’m goin’ ta have ta head out in a bit here.” He smirked. He knew he wouldn’t have to tell her that Yakavetta was behind the sudden phone call, but remembered her saying not to mention it in front of Daryl.“Either way works for us David, it’s not like I’m going to pop out a baby and then hop right into the car to come and visit,” she giggled and took her glass once David had filled it. “Yes my favorite red wine, that I won’t be able to drink once I’m pregnant.” She giggled, squeezing Daryl’s hand lightly letting him know she didn’t mind one bit. She sipped at her glass and when David said that he was going to have to leave soon she sighed, knowing there would be no use in arguing his early departure, “Alright, shall I pack you some food ta go?” she figured he would get hungry later while at work and would at least make him a to go box.
Daryl smirked and tasted the wine. “I ain’t much of a wine drinker so most a’ this stuff tastes the same ta me…” He shrugged and set his glass down. “I’m more of a beer ‘n whiskey man.” He smirked and took a bite of lasagna. As David’s phone rang, Daryl slightly frowned. He was just getting to know the guy and was just starting to have a good time. He looked between him and Dee and wondered where he was going. “Well, Dee’s right, ya might as well take some a’ this with ya.” He grinned. “Dee really is good at cookin’. We were thinkin’ ‘bout maybe havin’ her open up her own place down south once we get all settled in and we save up some money.”
“Same,” he chuckled, “I prefer beer an whiskey… but I’ve been used ta wine with dinner for fuckin’ years.” He smirked, “Might as well take some food ta go… Sounds like its goin’ ta be a long fuckin’ night.” He sighed and glanced at his phone again, “These guys really need to get the fuck off my back,” he cleared his throat, “sorry guys… maybe we can do a fuckin’ dinner or somethin’ before ya leave,” he smirked trying to keep a happy face for both Daryl and Dee’s benefit. “Dee’s always been a fuckin’ good cook, wouldn’t surprise me if she had her own little place,” he chuckled, “sounds like she’ll end up following in her Ma’s footsteps after all.”
